Education
High school
and post secondary education is essential for today’s
youth. The importance of valuable skills or a beneficial
trade acquired through the investment in education is beyond
measure. Therefore, we must make the pursuit of education
as smooth as possible for ALL the children in Georgia. Georgia is lagging behind when compared to other states in
areas of standardized testing and graduation rates. We
must make educational assistance accessible for Georgia
residents. Revising the HOPE scholarship to some extent to
allow those who don’t currently meet all of the current
guidelines would be an alternative to those individuals who
must attend trade school as a result. This is important
because the future of Georgia is in HOPE. In addition, I
plan on fighting to expand HOPE to include funding for
tutors as well as high school students who choose to attend
trade schools.
Consumer
Identity Protection and Privacy
Identity Theft
has become the new crime trend and is of increasing concern
to Georgia citizens. My experience in technology and
development has provided me with alternative methods for
businesses to identify customers. This includes removing the
informal, public use of the Social Security number. I plan
on fighting to restrict the use of the Social Security
numbers of our citizens in all applications used by
businesses that are not in the industry of credit or
background checks.
Community
Development
Community
Development is an important initiative for Georgia, but most
importantly, it will be an important initiative for District
94. Currently, the allocation of community development is
unevenly distributed, with some communities profiting more
than others. More programs should be developed to assist
potential small business owners in Georgia. I also believe
that grants should be made available for those who organize
community groups for the sole purpose of rebuilding their
respective communities. I plan on fighting for smaller
communities like our own, so we can benefit through economic
development.
Public
Transportation
Rising gas
prices and other economic factors have made the need for
reliable public transportation a primary area of interest.
I plan to address several issues regarding public
transportation in our community. An expansion of the current
public transportation system to include more routes and
lines will make alternative transportation the preferred
choice for most citizens. Also, I plan to address senior
citizen access to public transportation to ensure that all
our senior citizens who need and desire to have access to
public transportation find it accessible, reliable and
affordable.
Taxes
I will
work to get the taxes for the citizens of Georgia
decreased. When the bill to eliminate the ad valorem tax
failed, this decision was a major disappointment for all the
citizens of Georgia, as this bill would provide a much
needed tax relief. As your future representative, I plan to
help eliminate this tax. |
